How Logic Pro keeps your plugins

Logic Pro lists plugins in the menu of each channel strip slot, and three things shape that list.

Plug-in menus

Audio Units, by manufacturer

Click a slot on a channel strip and choose from its menu. Logic lists its own plug-ins by category, and the Audio Units you installed by manufacturer.

Plug-in Manager

Categories you build by hand

In Settings, the Plug-in Manager lets you make a category and drag plug-ins into it, give a plug-in a custom name, and hide the ones you don't use.

Search

By name, from a slot

In the Mixer, click a slot and type in the search field at the top of its menu. Search and Add Plug-in, Control-Command-P, puts the result in the first free Audio Effect slot of the focused channel strip.

Logic's own plug-ins arrive sorted by what they do. Your Audio Units arrive sorted by who made them, and organizing them further is yours to do.

Everything you own, already organized.

Plugindex fills in your library from Logic's own plug-in menus, so it knows every plugin Logic can load.

Every plugin, as a picture

Plugindex photographs each plugin's window for you, Logic's own and every Audio Unit you installed. There is nothing to sort first.

Filter by what it does

Compressors, limiters, reverbs, delays: sorted for you, down to the type, across every maker. Or type a few letters of a name or a maker and the grid comes down to it.

A click or a key puts it on the track

Click a plugin, or press the key you gave it. An effect lands in the selected track's next empty Audio FX slot, without you opening a menu.

An instrument gets a new track when the selected one already has one. Settings can make that always, or never.

The same key in your other DAWs

Give a plugin a key in Logic Pro. The same key loads it in Ableton Live, Pro Tools, FL Studio, Cubase, Nuendo, Bitwig Studio, REAPER and Studio Pro, wherever that plugin is installed.

See what runs where

Plugindex tells you when a key only works in the DAW you're in. Pro Tools on Windows is still in progress.

Set up once, in three steps.

  1. Allow Plugindex to control Logic Pro Press Grant, then switch on the row named Plugindex in System Settings, Privacy & Security, Accessibility. It is how a plugin lands on the track.
  2. Turn on Open plug-in window on insertion In Logic Pro, Settings, View, Mixer, under Plug-in Window. Plugindex needs it to take each plugin's picture when it's added.
  3. Press Index Plugindex fills in your library from Logic's own menus and photographs each plugin. macOS asks you to allow the photographs first.

Every step and fix for Logic Pro

The Plugindex menu. Setup & connection… shows these steps one at a time, and says when Logic Pro is connected.
